The memory cabinet

The memory cabinet is designed to hold artefacts from a child's life that we often hide in drawers and sometimes don't even know how to handle or store.

The cabinet is intended to be a kind of modern reliquary, a place to keep sacraments such as lost teeth, first haircuts, children's drawings, letters or photographs documenting the most important moments in a child's life.

The cabinet was created with the intention that one day, at a precious moment such as an 18th birthday or a wedding, we would give it to our offspring as a gift, as their unique imprint, or we would keep it as parents, and we would be able to return to these treasures at any time to reminisce when the children leave home. They will stay with us forever, wherever they go.

The cabinet was made for the Beautiful Work project, which aims to revive forgotten traditional crafts.

Its final form is the work of designer Klára Šumová, illustrator Barbora Idesová (the model for the woodcut), carver Klára Paclíková and joiner Štěpán Holoubek.
