Product detailed description

The poster was created as a tribute to the designer Ivan Jakeš as part of the 3 x 6 = POSTER poster series.

The series presents six designers who have been with us for the last 10 years of our lives and who have left an indelible mark on the history of Czechoslovakia. We asked three contemporary artists, Michaela Karásek Čejková, Ilona Polanski and Jan Šrámek, to create six original prints, each inspired by the person or product of the designer.

The posters will be on display at the exhibition at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague from 12 June to 15 September 2024.

Ivan Jakeš sculptor, painter, ceramicist and industrial artist was born in 1935. His original profession was electromechanic. In 1967 he joined the art studio of the national company Osvětlovací sklo in Valašské Meziříčí, where he later created his most famous industrial design realisation, lamps in the shape of chess pieces. Ivan Jakeš left the glassworks in 1976 and since then has devoted himself to his free work - painting, sculpture and ceramics.

Ilona Polanski is one half of the illustration duo Tomski & Polanski, which she founded with her colleague Lukáš in 2013. They have created their own distinctive visual language, using exaggeration to comment on society and character traits. They often laugh while working and are happy when others have fun. You can find them on the pages of Czech and European newspapers, magazines or in books by contemporary authors. Ilona is an artist with a passion for plump figures, elongated dachshunds and bold colours. She is a co-founder of the Association of Czech Illustrators, which presents the current Czech and Slovak illustration scene through interviews, articles and educational workshops.
