Poster Hepnar - Ilona Polanski
Code: 2406008Product detailed description
The poster was created as a tribute to the designer Antonín Hepnar as part of the 3 x 6 = POSTER poster series.
The series presents six designers who have been with us for the last 10 years of our lives and who have left an indelible mark on the history of Czechoslovakia. We asked three contemporary artists, Michaela Karásek Čejková, Ilona Polanski and Jan Šrámek, to create six original prints, each inspired by the person or product of the designer.
The posters will be on display at the exhibition at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague from 12 June to 15 September 2024.
Antonín Hepnar was born in 1932. He is a Czech designer, craftsman and, above all, human being. Antonín Hepnar developed his relationship with craft and wood as a child in his father's workshop. He further developed his skills as a turner and his feel for materials at the Secondary School of Arts and Crafts in Prague, Žižkov. His graduation piece was the now iconic toadstool lamp. Fifty-seven years later, in 2010, he won the main prize at the Designblok exhibition. Last year he published The Soul of Turned Wood, a book he has been working on for the past few years.
Ilona Polanski is one half of the illustration duo Tomski & Polanski, which she founded with her colleague Lukáš in 2013. They have created their own distinctive visual language, using exaggeration to comment on society and character traits. They often laugh while working and are happy when others have fun. You can find them on the pages of Czech and European newspapers, magazines or in books by contemporary authors. Ilona is an artist with a passion for plump figures, elongated dachshunds and bold colours. She is a co-founder of the Association of Czech Illustrators, which presents the current Czech and Slovak illustration scene through interviews, articles and educational workshops.
