Product detailed description
Iconic club chair designed by architects Věra Machoninová and Vladimír Machonin as a part of the interior of Hotel Thermal in Karlovy Vary. In addition to Hotel Thermal, the husband-and-wife team designed, for example, the Kotva department store in Prague, the embassy building in Berlin, and their own villa in Prague’s Smíchov neighbourhood. This armchair was originally a part of the furnishings of a building the architects designed in the 1970s for the esplanade in Karlovy Vary. The complex was built in the brutalist style and was conceived as a congress hotel and the main centre for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. Due to extensive renovations, the hotel’s furnishings were gradually removed, but some of them have been preserved.
This tall club chair with a circular seat was originally installed in the hotel lobby. It is upholstered in red faux leather and sits on a swivelling chrome base with four castors. The original cover is slightly damaged in some places. The backrest and seat have some scuff marks otherwise the chair is in very good original condition. The chair base has been repaired and the upholstery thoroughly cleaned.
