The famous designer Jindřich Halabala made thousands of homes in Czechoslovakia more attractive thanks to his quality products at affordable prices and made local design famous far beyond the borders of our country.
After last year's successful Villa Volman and NANOVO project, we have decided to continue this exhibition of Jindřich Halabala's unique models with other equally rare pieces.

A wooden Modela sofa from the 1930s made by Jindřich Halabala for the Uměleckoprůmyslové závody. This sofa was one of the most popular sofas produced by the UP factories in its time.
It is made of solid oak, which is bent in some parts by a special technology. The armrests can be folded into four positions, so it can be unfolded for resting. The entire sofa has been completely refurbished, including the sofa's folding system and new upholstery in green fabric.

Renovation of old furniture by Nanovo
Studio Nanovo, which renovates and sells 20th century Czechoslovak design, is behind the renovation of all the furniture on display at Halabala 2024. It was the influence of functionalism on Halabala's furniture that led Nanovo to Volman's villa, which proved to be the perfect place to showcase their renovation work. This is not the first collaboration with the Volman Villa - Nanovo helped the villa's owners to furnish a large part of the interior with period furniture and last year organised a similar exhibition of furniture by designer Jindřich Halabala.

Jindřich Halabala
(24. 5. 1903 - 18. 11. 1978)
Jindřich Halabala was born in Valašské Mezičí, where he learnt the carpentry trade in the family business and graduated from the Woodworking School in Valašské Mezičí and the School of Applied Arts in Prague. The most important period of the designer's work is connected with his employment at UP, which he joined in 1928. Thanks to the optimal combination of high product quality and mass production, furniture from UP Plants found its way into almost every Czechoslovak household.
Halabala combined the influence of Bauhaus and Functionalism with the Art Deco style and the skills of Czechoslovakian cabinetmakers. To this day, his work is a guarantee of quality.
